Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. During treatment, the major changes to your teeth’s positions were accomplished, but during the retention phase, small movements may be achieved with your retainers. Your jawbone, cheeks and lips will adapt to the new teeth positions during this retention phase as well.

Maintaining your retainer-wearing schedule is key to the success of the entire orthodontic process. Your final orthodontic result will depend on your commitment to wearing your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in throughout the entire treatment process, and you can achieve the maximum benefits of your treatment.

Your retention phase will last for a lifetime to ensure optimal results. In the first year after your braces are removed, you should always wear your retainer. After the first year, we recommend you wear your retainer at least every other night indefinitely.
